Lottery Winner Letter Scam

It has recently come to our attention that lottery offers have been circulating in the mail in which the recipient is informed that they are “winners of the NATIONAL LOTTO CO-OPERATION SWEEPSTAKES LOTTERY" held on a specific date. In many of these letters, the sender is either indicated as “SUN TRUST FINANCE, INC.” or the letter mentions the address of our regional office in Irving, Texas.

Many of these letters also include a check for a portion of the alleged “winnings” and a request for the recipient to remit a smaller sum to cover the cost of the processing fees and/or applicable taxes associated with the “winnings.”

DO NOT ATTEMPT TO CASH THIS CHECK AS IT IS COUNTERFEIT. THE BANK ACCOUNT NUMBERS ARE NOT ASSOCIATED TO AN ACTIVE BANK ACCOUNT.

CONEXIS, all its regional offices and partners are not associated with a lottery or any organization providing notice of this information, nor are the recipients of these letters associated with the services CONEXIS provides. The thieves involved are apparently creating fraudulent and bogus checks with CONEXIS as the Payer.

We are currently working with the appropriate authorities, including the Federal Trade Commission and the United States Secret Service. If you have received one of these, or a similar letter or check, please directly fax a copy of these documents to 214-492-8721 (Attention: Corporate Compliance, Ethics and Security), as we would like to obtain copies of these scam letters to provide to law enforcement agencies. As an alternative, you may mail a copy of this to:
